The article substantiates the relevance of the problem of formation of the cognitive component of self-esteem of primary school children with mental retardation. The results of scientific data on the peculiarities of self-esteem in primary school children of this nosological group, on the peculiarities of the development of the cognitive component of a child’s self-esteem in the process of his schooling are summarized.
